The collage process can bring unexpected results. It can be an end in itself, a tool for generating ideas, or a way to make journal pages more interesting. In this class, we will take a quick look at the development of collage in the 20th c. as a unique art form, and also it’s varied use in art today. Most of the class time though will be spent experimenting with collage techniques that create interesting surface textures using layers of paper and paint, as well as ways to incorporate found images. Students are encouraged to bring photos and scraps of their own to use. Mostly, this will be about having fun. There will be a variety of found, vintage, and special papers available to get each student started.
